ART

   Art I, II and III are offered to Routt students.   

   Art I is a studio art and lecture course with emphasis on drawing, painting and design. Students explore the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design as they engage in studio activities in drawing painting and design.

   Art II focuses on a variety of drawing techniques that introduce new media and methods. It continues to explore new media and methods in the visual arts along with creating 3 dimensional forms. It is a studio art course that includes art history assignments. Students will begin to focus on creating a portfolio for college and working as a studio community. 

   Art III focuses on writing about art both in and outside the classroom. Students attend and participate in local art exhibits. 

   The Art Club also offers an opportunity for students to share their artistic interests.

THEATRE

   Each year, two plays are performed by the students in the elective Theatre course.  This class introduces students to the basics of the craft and art of theatre through firsthand experience, reading, viewing, terminology and theatre games. Students learn proper stage technique, vocabulary, set design, methodology and are exposed to various forms of theatre. This course may be repeated.

MUSIC

   Band is an elective music class that stresses instrumental performances and is offered as an early bird course.  The Band performs at selected home football and basketball games, the Fine Art Extravaganzas, at Mass and recitals. Advanced students may audition for the All-District and All-State competitions.  Participation in the IHSA solo and ensemble contest is encouraged. Also, beginning band instruction is available. If enough students express an interest, other choral opportunities may be available.
