Matching Gifts -- Your gift could be matched dollar for dollar!

Matching gifts are not available to everyone; however, many companies offer matching gift programs to their employees that will double, even triple a donation's value. Employers set up matching gift programs as a way to make charitable contributions to organizations that are important to their employees. The benefit for you is:

  • You receive donor credit.
  • You direct your company’s philanthropic dollars to Routt Catholic High School.
  • Your support of your alma mater is doubled.

To find out if your company will match your contribution to Routt or if you have questions about your company's matching gift program, please contact your personnel/human resources office.

Once you have determined that your company matches donations made to Routt, obtain the appropriate form from your personnel/human resources office and send it with a your gift to:

Development Office
Routt Catholic High School

Giving Gifts of Stock

Giving gifts of appreciated stock is an excellent way to make your donation to Routt Catholic High School and provide yourself with tax benefits. When you make a donation of stock that has appreciated in value, you do not have to declare capital gains on your taxes for that stock. You also get the benefit of a charitable gift deduction. The stock gift you give to Routt is valued at the average of the high and low prices on the day your broker transfers the stock to Routt, and that is the amount of the deduction you can claim.

When transferring stock, please contact the Development Office at Routt to get the information to contact our broker. If you have stock certificates, check with your broker about getting a medallion signature guarantee to secure the certificate during the transfer process.

If you decide to make a stock donation at the end of the calendar, the IRS stipulates different guidelines for determining the legal gift date depending on how the transfer was made. Therefore, start the process early so you know the transaction will be completed before December 31 and thereby eligible for a tax deduction for that year.

To contact the Development Office, call (217) 245-0934 or e-mail development@routtcatholic.com.

Making the gift of a lifetime

Without planned gifts, it is safe to say that Routt Catholic High School would not be here today. The Routt Family had a vision during their lifetime of providing Catholic education in Jacksonville, and it was this vision that led to their planned gifts securing Routt’s future. Others in recent years have followed in their footsteps—Mary Ursula Ryan and Dorothy Hodgson are just two examples. Their love for Routt led them to make substantial gifts through their estates. In doing so, their names will be forever associated with our beloved school’s found family

Most people aren’t in the position to make a substantial gift of assets during their lifetime. However, making a gift to Routt Catholic High School through your will could be your opportunity to make your gift of a lifetime. Also, it is easy to invest in the future success of Rout in your will. You can do this by stating that a specific amount will be paid to Routt Catholic High School, you can designate that Routt will receive a percentage of your estate, or you can specify that Routt will receive the remainder of the estate after other designations have been paid.

One of the greatest benefits of planning your estate is that it allows you to reduce the tax liability on your beneficiaries. It also gives you control over your assets, allowing you to provide for your family as well as providing for your favorite charity or charities. Because the special circumstances of the various planned giving opportunities and the complexities of the laws governing them, please check with a lawyer or financial advisor before planning your estate. But don’t avoid the process; this is the only way to assure your assets provide the most benefit to your family and, hopefully, to Routt Catholic High School as well.

Scholarships

Routt Catholic High School has been the benefactor of generous donations, primarily from individual estates or memorial gifts from family and friends, to establish endowed accounts with the Routt Education Foundation to provide tuition support for our students. The Routt Education Foundation invests these gifts and the interest is returned to the school to provide tuition assistance to our students and their families. Some of the accounts provide general tuition assistance to families who qualify. Besides these need-based scholarships, several of the accounts provide merit or essay-based scholarships that are awarded annually. View a list of scholarships that have been established.
