CONSUMER ECONOMICS
GRADE 12
Credit: .50 • One Semester
Required
The four main concepts covered are decision-making, financial management, resource management, and economic understanding. Topics include budgets, credit cards, installment loans, insurance, taxes, banking, home ownership, investing, bankruptcy, and debt.

GEOGRAPHY
GRADE 9
Credit: .50 • One Semester
Required
This semester course not only covers the physical factors such as climate and natural resources, but also attempts to teach the cultural dimensions that contribute to the life of people in all parts of the world.

HEALTH
GRADE 9
Credit: .50 • One Semester
Required
Health class is based on a student-centered approach to health. This course will center on issues relevant to the needs of high school-aged students. Drugs, alcohol, stress, tobacco, personality, and sex education will be specifically discussed. First Aid, safety, cancer, AIDS, and infectious diseases are also covered. Current health issues are also discussed to round out this course.

FRENCH I
GRADE 9 - 12
Credit: 1 • Full Year prerequisites: Above average ability; good/excellent English skills
French 1 is introduced by use of meaningful dialogues, study of vocabulary and basic grammatical concepts. By using listening activities and repetition, the student learns to manipulate a language basic to everyday situations. This study also reinforces the grammatical concepts in English. By studying cultural materials, the student’s world perspective is enriched.

FRENCH II
GRADES 10 - 12
Credit: 1 • Full Year
Prerequisites: French I; above average ability; good/excellent English skills
French 2 consists of progression in developing the skills of speaking, reading, and writing in the foreign language. Language study is cumulative, with new material built on the foundation of previously presented material. The course requires a consistent high level of applied study and demands mastery and retention of material.

FRENCH III
GRADES 11 - 12
Credit: 1(5/A Grading) • Full Year
Prerequisites: French II; above average ability; good/excellent English skills
By use of dialogues dealing with ordinary situations, study of vocabulary and basic grammatical concepts, the students learn to manipulate a language basic to everyday situations. By study of civilization and cultural materials the student’s perspective on the world is broadened and deepened. Each succeeding year’s study progresses in developing the skills of speaking, reading, and writing in the foreign language.

FRENCH IV
GRADE 11 - 12
Credit: 1 (5/A Grading) • Full Year
Prerequisites: Successful completion of French III
Students continue progress in speaking, reading and writing the language. The course is cumulative with new materials built on the foundation of previously presented material. It requires a very high and consistent level of applied study and demands mastery and retention of material. Reading short novels and completing projects are also emphasized.

FRENCH V
GRADE 12
Credit: 1 (5/A Grading) • Full Year
Prerequisites: Successful completion of French IV

Bio

Mrs. Hester is married with two children. Jordan is twelve years old and Nicholas is seven. She enjoys reading, scrapbooking, and working in tending to her flower garden.

Extra Curricular

Mrs. Hester is currently a Freshman class sponsor. Her duties include approving all class activities, such as field trips and helping with the concessions during varsity sporting events.
