Courses
EARTH SCIENCE/PHYSICAL SCIENCE GRADE 9
Credit: 1 • Full Year
Prerequisites: None
Course offers a basic study of the principles of earth science and physical science with a focus on atmosphere, weather, astronomy, electricity, and magnetism. There are cumulative activities at the end of each unit such as building a weather station and an electric car. Laboratory activities are included to enhance each unit of study. Course concludes with a trip to the Star Lab.
BIOLOGY I GRADE 10
Credit: 1 • Full Year
Prerequisites: Earth Science/Physical Science
This course is a basic study of biology with emphasis on the principles and features common to all life, as well as information about the diversity of process and structures. It also provides an understanding of how a scientist conducts an investigation; the basics of classification and the characteristics of the six kingdoms of life; an introduction to the structure and function of plant and animal cells, genetics, and the different phyla of the animalia kingdom; mastery of identifying local insects and the order that they belong to; experiences in using microscopes, dissection; using a dichotomous key for classification, punnet squares for genetic problems, using insect nets, kill jars, and pinning blocks.
BIOLOGY II GRADES 11 - 12
Credit: 1 • Full Year
Prerequisites: Earth Science/Physical Science, Biology I with no grade lower than a B and teacher recommendation
This course offers a basic study of botany and human physiology; introduction to plant anatomy, reproduction, and growth; orientation to the local fall flowers and fall leaves; mastery of human anatomy and the functions and workings of each major system of the body; includes dissection of a fetal pig; and experience with the use of the Power Point computer program to make presentations. (This course will be offered every other year starting school year 2008-2009)
ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE GRADES 11 - 12
Credit: 1 • Full Year
Prerequisites: Earth Science/Physical Science, Biology I
This course is a basic study of the environment and problems associated with it; an orientation to ecological disruptions, biomes of the world and Illinois; biodiversity of Illinois and other environmental Issues. Students will become familiar with the various scientific testing methods used by field scientists, and will also utilize Power Point to make presentations. Other technology use will be Adobe PageMaker to make brochures and advertisements. (This course will be offered every other year starting school year 2009-2010)

Worked for Illinois Environment Protection Agency in the Air Pollution Division, also the Illinois Department of Conservation in the Wetlands Porgram and Conservation Education Program.
Previously employed as the assistant for the President of MacMurray College where she obtained her teaching certificate.
